I’m often asked to name my favorite episode or my most beloved character from My Life as a Teenage Robot. It’s hard for me to choose in those two categories, but it’s easy to name my favorite Jenny “outfit.” It’s her souped-up, hot rod paint job from “The Great Unwashed.”

I didn’t always guess correctly about what would go over with the audience, but the moment I saw those flames on Jenny’s chassis I knew viewers would flip. However, I could never have predicted that this variant would have actual, commercially produced merchandise more than twenty years later. I see images of the red and orange-flamed version of XJ9 online so often, it’s hard to believe that she only appeared like this once in the series.
