Below is another page from Alex's work on the X-Plor-R image. This page is all about composition and how to make two different pictures (Close Up vs Wide Shot) into one coherent illustration. There's a lot of fine tuning (or fiddling) going on here as Alex tries to get it just right.

Compare that with his roughs for Chapter 4. He nails it right off the bat. The character poses, expressions, and the overall composition are all there right from the get go.

Nothing wrong with fiddling till you get something right but, boy oh boy, it's nice when you nail it.
