Before we started on this new MLaaTR story, I gave Alex Kirwan a rough outline of the idea broken down into chapters. I also gave him a list of the chapters that I thought would need illustrations so he could work ahead and have plenty of time to draw.

Believe it or not, the chapter in which Jenny is transformed into Goth Punk Jenny was not on that list. It was only when I sat down to actually write that chapter that I realized we needed to see Jenny in her new costume.

I sheepishly reached out to Alex and asked if he thought he could turn something around quick. He generously agreed. To lighten his load, I decided to do some of the initial brainstorming myself. I wanted there to be a connection between how Jenny got wrecked in outer space and how she got fixed up by Jeremy and Melancholia.

This is what I came up with and sent to Alex:

I grabbed pieces of shrapnel and turned them into accessories and used all that soot as makeup. The one idea that didn't make it to the final image was the dangling wire earring (c). The bolt screwed into the side of Jenny's head worked better on its own.

I wish all my last minute costumes came together as smoothly as this did!
