There was a behind-the-scenes change in the last Teenage Robot chapter and I’m curious if any of you caught it. Alas, I can’t read your minds telepathically (or can I ?) so I will never know if any of you were able to spot the difference.

Last week marked the debut of a new illustrator for the newsletter!

Alex Kirwan has become too busy to draw the illustrations moving forward which is unfortunate for all of us Kirwan fans. It is also fortunate for all us Kirwan fans because he’s busy developing a new project which we’ll hopefully get to enjoy sometime soon. Before he left, he delivered one final artistic love letter to MLaaTR fans— the design and reveal of Epiphany Crust. A fitting farewell from one of the most talented artists I know. Thanks for everything, Alex!

Luckily, another of the most talented artists I know has agreed to step in — Heather Martinez!

Heather was one of my star storyboard artists on MLaaTR and is a fantastic writer and director with a long list of animation credits. She’s also a prolific Golden Book illustrator. She’s already hit it out of the park with her illustration of Tuck and Jenny from last week’s newsletter.

Part of the reason for the delay with that chapter was that I asked Heather to come up with something dangerous for Tuck to be doing on the playground. She gave me two great ideas. I picked my favorite but now you get to see both.

You’ll be seeing more of Heather’s great work going forward, but for even more Heather-ly goodness check her out on Instagram @heatherisjoyful and on Twitter @HeatherIsJoyful

See you next week!
